1099 Taxes for Rideshare Drivers: What to Track

As a rideshare or delivery driver, you’re an independent contractor. That means no taxes are withheld — and you owe self-employment tax on your net earnings.

Track these from day one:

  • Miles: Every business mile (including dead miles between rides). The standard mileage deduction is usually your biggest write-off.
  • Phone: The business-use percentage of your phone bill.
  • Tolls and parking: Fully deductible when driving for work.
  • Health insurance premiums: Potentially deductible if you’re self-employed.

Set aside 25–30% of your net for quarterly estimated taxes so April doesn’t hurt. SA Drivers Club members can export a tax-ready CSV of every shift — miles, earnings, tolls — straight from the app.
